dnd name forge

Guides

Three pages here are written from runs of this site's own generator rather than from advice. Each one puts the sample size and seed in the first box, counts from that run, and leaves the script on the site so the numbers can be checked instead of trusted.

Name statistics — 30,000 names

Ten thousand human, ten thousand elf, ten thousand tiefling names at seed 20261020, counted for openings, closing syllables and clan names. Finding: all 64 human clans appeared, the busiest taking 157 names — 1.57% — and two closing syllables pressed against the 1,250-per-batch cap. Read the distributions.

Cool D&D names — five registers, 10,000 each

The same generator run once per style, gritty through grim, measuring what makes a name read cool: median letters and consonant weight. Finding: median length runs from 5 letters in gritty to 8 in noble and archaic, while hard onsets stay flat at 37.8–38.6% in every register. Sixty names, sorted by register.

DnD party names — 50 batches of 200

Ten thousand names pulled in the batches a table actually uses, then 100,000 simulated parties per size. Finding: full names never repeated, but a five-person party drawn blind shared a surname in 2.66% of draws, and 91 of the 200 names in an average batch carried a surname someone else in the batch also had. What a batch gives you for a party name.

The generator itself is on the front page: pick a culture, a class and a style, and pull up to 200 names at once.
