DnD elf names
Four subraces, four different sounds. Every number below comes from 10,000 draws of this site's own generator at seed 20261026 — pools and method are printed under the tables, and the script is on the page, so you can re-run it and get the same figures.
The answer in one table
| Subrace | Distinct full names | Repeat rate | Mean letters | Mean syllables | Busiest ending |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High Elf | 9,940 | 0.60% | 7.88 | 2.71 | -or |
| Wood Elf | 9,956 | 0.44% | 7.46 | 2.70 | -wyn |
| Drow | 9,953 | 0.47% | 7.69 | 2.76 | -eth |
| Half-Elf | 9,968 | 0.32% | 7.04 | 2.80 | -el |
Read it as: no subrace repeats more than 0.60% of a 10,000-name run, and the four land within 0.84 letters of each other. The difference between them is not length; it is which endings they lean on.

What the numbers support
- Wood elf is the capped one. Two endings (-wyn, -rin) hit 1,250 names each — the per-batch ceiling the generator enforces at 10,000 draws. Nothing else in the four subraces reaches it except high elf's -or at 1,086, and half-elf never gets close: ten endings at exactly 1,000 each.
- High elf is the longest and the least repetitive. 7.88 letters per given name, and 7,365 distinct given names in 10,000 draws — the widest spread of the four, because its opening table has 11 entries against wood elf's 11 over a smaller vowel set.
- Half-elf is the flattest. Ten endings at 1,000 each and 8,524 distinct given names: the pool is small enough that the balance counter never has to press against its ceiling, so the output looks even rather than varied.
How this was measured
Pools. High elf: 11 openings × 6 vowels × 10 endings for the given name, plus 8 × 8 = 64 clan names. Wood elf: 11 × 5 × 10 and 64 clans. Drow: 10 × 5 × 10 and 64 clans. Half-elf: 10 × 5 × 10 and 64 clans.
Sample. 10,000 names per subrace, one tracker per subrace, gender Neutral, the five styles cycled in order, seed 20261026.
Counting. A "closing" is the ending the generator appends, returned by the call itself — not guessed from spelling. Syllables are counted as vowel groups in the given name. Repeat rate is (10,000 − distinct full names) ÷ 10,000.
Reproduce it
var s=document.createElement('script'); s.src='/assets/elf-stats.js'; document.body.appendChild(s);
Open the generator, paste the line below in the console, and it prints the same four tables for seed 20261026. If the numbers differ, the pools changed — the script reads them from the live generator, not from a copy.
