How these were produced. Every name above came out of this site's generator with seed 20261020, gender Neutral, and one batch of 200 per register; twelve were kept from each batch. Nothing here was typed by hand.
For the numbers further down: 10,000 names per register, all 36 cultures cycled, one batch tracker per register so the caps are computed for n = 10,000. Length = letters in the given name. Hard onset = starts with b, d, g, k, p or t. Stop ending = ends with one of those. All figures are counted from that run, not estimated.
What 10,000 names per register show
1. Register changes length before anything else. Median given-name length runs from 5 letters in gritty to 8 in noble and archaic — a three-letter spread that you hear immediately when a roster is read aloud. Means: gritty 5.29, wild 6.44, grim 7.40, noble 7.95, archaic 8.13.
2. The punchier endings belong to wild, grim and gritty. Share of given names ending in a stop consonant: wild 26.1%, grim 25.4%, gritty 24.9%, against 19.4% for both noble and archaic. That is roughly one name in four versus one in five — enough to feel, not enough to be a gimmick.
3. Openings do not move at all. Hard-onset share is 37.8% (gritty), 37.8% (noble), 38.1% (archaic), 38.6% (wild) and 38.0% (grim) — flat within one point across five registers. Style never touches the onset table; it only shapes how many syllables get stacked and how the name closes. If you want a harder start, change the culture, not the style.
| Register | Median letters | Mean | Hard onset | Stop ending |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gritty | 5 | 5.29 | 37.8% | 24.9% |
| Noble | 8 | 7.95 | 37.8% | 19.4% |
| Archaic | 8 | 8.13 | 38.1% | 19.4% |
| Wild | 6 | 6.44 | 38.6% | 26.1% |
| Grim | 7 | 7.4 | 38% | 25.4% |
How to use this when you are naming
- For a mercenary band or a raiding party, gritty and wild do the work: five to six letters, a quarter of them closing on a hard consonant.
- For court names and old houses, noble and archaic give you two extra letters and softer endings — the difference between Dolak Irongnaw and Dahugrim Anvilvein.
- Mixing registers inside one roster is what makes a village sound lived-in: three gritty names beside one archaic name reads as a place with a history.

The measurement script is at /assets/cool-stats.js. Open any page here, open the console and paste:
var s=document.createElement('script'); s.src='/assets/cool-stats.js'; document.body.appendChild(s);
It prints the same table with console.table using seed 20261020 and 10,000 names per register. Change the seed and the counts move; the shape holds. The longer write-up of the generator's clan and closing behaviour is on the 30,000-name measurement page.
