What this page is counting. The dragon epithet table is 8 heads against 8 tails. 8 × 8 = 64, and all 64 are distinct. The color check is a substring search, lowercased, of these ten words: black, blue, green, red, white, brass, bronze, copper, gold, silver. Each returns 0. Gem-dragon words are not in that list. Dealing the 64 in that same list order, six to each of the ten words, uses 60 and leaves 4. 64 − 10 × 6 = 4. The four past slot 60 are Wyrmbreath, Wyrmmaw, Wyrmcrest and Wyrmfire. That split is arithmetic on the list, not a mode the generator runs.

How many DnD dragon names does this table hold?
64, and no more. Eight heads (Ember, Storm, Ash, Iron, Frost, Cinder, Scale, Wyrm) times eight tails (claw, scale, tail, wing, breath, maw, crest, fire) is 64, and all 64 are distinct. There is no join rule that rejects a pair, so Scale plus scale is kept as Scalescale.
Do these dragon names encode a color?
Not these ten. Checked as case-insensitive substrings against all 64 epithets, black, blue, green, red, white, brass, bronze, copper, gold and silver each return 0 hits. 0 plus 0 ten times is 0. Gem-dragon words were not in the check.
What is the difference between a dragon name and a dragonborn name here?
This page is only the epithet table, the second half of a dragonborn full name. Dragonborn given names come from a separate syllable engine and are counted on the dragonborn page. Kobold uses the same epithet table.
How long is a name from this table?
